HOME, SWEET, HOME!!

After a 3 month long marketing circuit and 12,000 miles of driving all over the Western part of the country Nicky and I are finally back home! The annual circuit was very successful and we are gearing up for another busy summer at Yes Bay. The week was mostly spent getting the house cleaned up and catching up on the recent events around the lodge. It was great to get out to do some fishing and explore of which is the normal routine for Sunday. We spent the day jigging up some rock fish and having a fireside lunch in Blind Pass. The fresh fish 'n' chips was the perfect way to cap off our first Sunday back and end the evening. It's great to be back home!!

The 2014 season is only a few weeks away - the Lodge has been a flurry of activity with little time for relaxation. Window coverings are off, water system is purged, new carpeting being installed, flight manifests are being prepared, fish boxes and shrink wrap bags are arriving, bait is ordered, fuel and propane runs are underway, plans for crew arrival is being done, and of course the wedding of the Century at the Lodge is being planned, we have a an air of excitement running around the Lodge, first for the wedding and planning for all the guests to arrive, then the anticipation for the crew to arrive then soon after the first guests!

One other thing - did I mention there will be some new boats this year, stay tuned for pictures when the arrive and get rigged!!

In the meantime there has been some time for some spring scenery and a little fishing!

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

And of course some challenges - like the dogs getting into a porcupine!!

Then the arrival of 18 Uniform on the first trip of the season!

Always nice to see the plane arrive for the first time!!

We see Capt Mark Hansen was able to find the Lodge again!! He gets better every year!!

Ryan with a load of fish and shrimp for an evening feast!

A trip to town and they scored a big King Crab from the Aleutian Ballard! A feast to remember!

Took some time for a nice hike up the river for some fishing!

Dewey with a nice steelhead! Must be a million of them up there!

Nicky with a nice Yelloweye from Shrimp Bay!!

Another nice rockfish for dinner!

Saw some seals on the rocks!

There is still of ton of work to do around the Lodge, so much so poor Ryan is overwhelmed, between the wedding and the start of the season he is a little behind.

So he put the pictures up but asked me to write the summary to get the blog up and going before the season, stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks as the activity level breaks into high gear!!

There are still a few spots available at the Lodge if you have not made your reservations yet, now is the time. Right now the Lodge is booked at about 92% - but we can still squeeze a few more in - so call soon!

The staff is anticipating a fantastic season - plan to follow along!

The guides went out for the day to get all the gear and boats tuned in before the official start up. The salmon bite was slow today so everyone shifted into the bottom bounce which proved very successful. They hit the dock with a variety of rock fish along with a 30#, 85#, and a 110# Halibut! The clouds moved in for a high overcast with a light SE wind.

Beautiful start for the day with 60 degree temperatures with absolutely no wind. The first day of fishing for our guests was off to a slow start due to this warm weather but a couple guests still managed to bring up a nice Yelloweye along with a few rockfish. The forecast for the next couple of days is rain so the fish usually become active with new weather.

Jeff & Cameron Jonas got to test out their new gear and came back with a handful of rockfish

We will be at a count of 24 people starting so stay tuned in the upcoming action!!

As the weatherman predicted the rain moved in with mid 50 degree temperature to make for a perfect SE Alaska fishing day! We tend to see the fish start to move with conditions like this so it made for a better today for the King fishing. Along with the usual variety of rock fish hitting the dock along with a few nice Kings it was a fun day for the guests here at Yes Bay!

The day was a rainy one today with some serious squalls moving through with a steady SE wind blowing. The water conditions were a little bumpy but that didn't stop the guests from coming back with some nice catches. The fleet targeted the southern area of our fishing grounds to hunt out the Kings which proved successful. This is a tell-tale sign that the Kings are moving along with the run starting to get hot...

The guests went out for their usual morning outing searching hard for the Kings. The bite was a bit slow on the troll for the salmon but the rock fish were biting like crazy. We got some crew out on the water as well to jig up some fish which always keeps them happy The rest of the day was committed to the bottom fishing being that the winds were calm which made for calm conditions.

Some great action today gave us some insight that the Kings are showing up with consistency! Dee Blue hit the dock with a 35.3# King salmon and keep in mind this 84 year old woman landed it like a champion!!! We had some other great catches from the ladies with a 10# and a 9.7# King salmon. A few halibut along with a 24.9# Shortraker caught at 900' deep. The weather was on and off with the rain but the day ended with high clouds and the sun peaking through. Check out the pics!

The day was absolutely beautiful today with the skies clear and the sun shining. With the wind calm it made for smooth boat rides and and calm conditions to fish. We had a 44# Halibut along with some bright Kings weighing in at 23.5#, 22.5#, 19# and a 17#. These fish are getting everyone excited for the peak of the run along with a clear weather forecast. We had a total of 13 guests depart the lodge today so only a handful of boats went out fishing for the day. It was a bright and sunny day but a solid SE wind made the conditions a bit different than what it has been. The hunt was on for the guests that went out and with the conditions being like they were they were able to end the day on a good note with some fish.

A calm and collected day here at the lodge as there were only a handful of boats that went out fishing today. The boats that went out had a great time on the water along with some good catches. Not much weather as it was a clear day but should be seeing some serious rain the next couple of days.

The guests showed up last night and the lodge is full! Everybody is ready to fish and the hunt was on today as the boats covered a lot of water throughout the day. The Kings are still a bit elusive but a nice 16# King along with a bunch of Yelloweye came back today. The guests dealt with some serious squalls and a chilly NE wind. Everybody got suited up and battled the elements to come out on top with their catches.

The usual SE weather here today with the rain coming and going all day! Nothing too bad to keep the guests from fishing as the boats had a very productive day on the water. The bite has been hot in the afternoon so the majority of the guests have been packing their boat lunches to be able to get the whole day on the water. With the Kings being a bit on the slow side the all day hunt has been the name of the game. The lodge has also been running at consistent numbers of 20+ people so the search has been expansive. Check out the pics below for the day!!
